People In Connection was a sponsor and had a table at the First Annual Culinary Challenge and Trade show this past weekend and we had an excellent time.. while it was a little disappointing to find out that evidently not as many people as anticipated were interested in a live version of the challenge which was quite surprising.. it was an excellent event so many people missed out on a great time! Lots of vendors, samples, goodies, draws, silent auction in support of Salvation Army.
My business associate Mark Ironside came out to the event to assist me at the table and was a great asset. Thanks Mark! We met some fabulous small business owners, got to mingle with some others that we knew and enjoyed watching the challenges. We truly hope that Wayne Baker of Cooking is Fun and Easy does this again next year as we would be very pleased to support this event as a sponsor again.

In April the discussion at the People In Connection Network events is about search engines.. even though Google is the search engine of choice.. or the one used now mostly by habit and it is a challenge for many to even try others that may work better for them for some searches.
There are many levels of search now as well. Gone are the days that a text search was your only choice. Now you can choose from video search, text search, image search, map search and more.
The following are excellent resource links that you should be using to learn more about the other search engines and how to submit your site to them. There were two suggestions today that are not on any of the links below.. Val Lewis from Transitions suggested www.dogpile.com which has been around for many many years and is a great choice for a wide angle search that picks up the results from other major search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Ask and Bing, so you get the best of all worlds from one site.
Brian from Doctor Pc is working on a genealogy index called www.gendexonline.com which will be a great resource for those looking for their ancestors.
Here are the resources that gives you details about the search engines that were talked about this month. This is an interesting read and gives you a bit of history of the search engines as well as how to submit your site.

In October we had an open round table discussion about the challenges facing some small business owners and the following challenges were raised by the attendees.
1. Making people understand non-traditional businesses
2.Finding temporary help.
3. Getting people to accept alternative thinking for healthy living/cures.
4. Integrating with the community – gaining trust of clients
5. Finding your target market – where to find new clients
6. Helping people understand they can concentrate on making money while others do the administrative tasks.
7. Staffing- Attracting and affording the best talent.
8. Not having leadership and management skills.
9. Sales – Not enough ime to make more sales, how to make more sales.
10. Training – no time to train new employees effectively
11. Change management – small business owners are sometimes more resistant to change directions when the economy changes. no plan in place.
12. The biggest challenge is the resistance to ask for help. Realizing you aren’t a superhero and can’t do everything.
Overcoming these challenges isn’t easy but the easiest step you can take first is to ASK FOR HELP. Be BOLD about your business needs!

Well, we surprised everyone today and had a new topic for discussion in Hamilton… actually it carried on the same topic line about Media sites. There was a good discussion about this topic around the table but I think the most interesting comment was that these tactics are not just for use on media sites but in your daily business as well. Here is the link to the full article below.
As promised, here is the link to read 7 Social Media Tactics for Explosive results in your business!
Don’t forget to scroll down this page for the wrap-up from the Burlington event.. lots of good comments.

Well now there sure is lots going on at People In Connection these days! I thought I would share them on the blog.
I have just completed recording a member video to assist new members moving around the site.
Mark Ironside from NewMediaStar.tv has been awesome and we have a shiny new corporate video that airs People In Connection on Youtube.com and will be uploaded to other social media sites shortly as well as our own. We work very hard to try to get your name out there and more people moving through the site. If we all forward the People In Connection site and newest show to just a few key contacts each month, it helps all of us! Our newsletter reach is almost 3000 people in a month and we make sure the logo is in front of many eyes through our advertising and sponsors.
We are working hard in the studio and have a brand new 6′ X 12′ green screen that Bill and Mark will be using for new projects. We also have a nice size green screen now too that can be used for your personal corporate video, training programs, and much more! This means the client is able to choose their custom background… I think this is pretty slick.. I have no idea what they do on the technology side so I am awed by the effects. Watch for some samples of their work coming soon!
In May is our evening showcase network event. I will send along details soon on this event which is always exciting. We will also have a tradeshow aspect and a speakers corner may be a good possibility!
We are having a great time. Chris is working diligently with our web site design clients and I am working with some new projects as well. We will brag about the new websites shortly.
We had an awesome meeting with Ted Hodkinson from the Eva Rothwell Centre . We were treated to a tour of the centre and learned this is a great resource for businesses! You can rent a large classroom size room for a day (with or without tables and chairs), a month or a year at a great price and you would be supporting this excellent centre in the heart of Hamilton. The building is secure and there is even parking!
We have some member to member offers starting to come up on the members login page.. so login to read about them!
We are a bit behind on the eventpost and articlepost sites but it should be within the next week.
So, that’s it for now. Have a great night everyone!
Marie
