JuliaMarie Mushing, co-founder of People in Connection has often joked that Hamilton Ontario has as many network groups as Tim Hortons locations when it comes to business. She and feels this is a good thing and I wholeheartedly agree with her!  Face to face business  networks provide an extremely effective way to build your business and get solid leads.  Having many network groups gives business owners choices as to the time, location and topics that are most interesting to them. They can also network with others in their target market by choosing groups that are right for them.

Oakville is the same – there are many networking groups here too – I’m not sure they outnumber Tim Horton’s but you never know. People have asked me why another networking group in Oakville – aren’t there enough?

Not really, as some meeting times don’t work well for everyone. There are many networking groups that meet first thing in the morning or in the early evening, but not a lot that meet at lunch time so I thought that would be a great gap to fill. For those who need to get the children off to school or be there when they come home – opportunities are limited to network. Many other businesses are busy during the day and can’t take the time to go to a networking event. or the only day of the week they have available are Mondays when they are closed. Hair salons and art galleries are two that come to mind.

This is why I thought that Monday at lunch time would be a great day to hold our meetings. We meet on the first Monday of the month at Sharkey’s Restauant at 220 North Service Road (north of the QEW, in the same plaza as Winners, Michael’s and Henry’s Cameras). The meeting time is at 12:30.  We offer a great meal and an opportunity to network, and we hope members will leave with new knowledge and great connections.

It’s July and the photos from our first meeting on June 7th are available from SNAP Oakville. We had an awesome turnout with 17 people in total ready to network. The buzz in the room was fantastic. Everyone made some great connections and enjoyed a great meal at Sharkey’s.

Ute Lindner of Steps to Life gave an excellent presentation on “Getting Past Your Wall of Fear (False Evidence Appearing Real)”.

It was the second time I heard her give the talk and I learned something new the second time around. It’s amazing how those gremlins can sit on your shoulder and hold you back from achieving what you need to do to make your life and business successful! Thank you for an excellent talk Ute!

We had a smaller meeting on July 5th, but we had an excellent discussion around charitable donations, especially in the area of making contributions to charities in your clients’ names to thank them for your business. There were many views expressed, from yes, it’s a great idea to maybe some would prefer to receive a tangible thank you gift that they could personally use. It all comes down to knowing your client and what their preferences are.

We usually meet on the first Monday of each month, but next month we are going to meet on the second Monday since the first Monday is the Civic Holiday. We look forward to seeing you at Sharkey’s at 12:30 on Monday, August 9th!

Marie’s burger was presented so nicely that we had to get a picture of it. Marie’s daughter is a cook and we thought she’d appreciate the presentation.
